Sylvia Weinstein, as publisher and editor, has been cutting her teeth on printer’s ink for 30 years and enjoying every issue of it. What began as a 8½ x 11 quarterly has grown to a 28-plus page tabloid with a monthly distribution of 9,000 in almost 200 Peninsula locations. Sylvia is most proud of her dedicated designers, writers, photographers and other important team members who make this industry fun. Most of all, she is quick to express her appreciation to the advertisers and readers who make it possible for her to love her work.

Kelli Caplan is a wife, a mother of three and a friend to all who know her. She spends a lot of time in her SUV, driving to schools, pediatricians, WalMart and Harris Teeter. She loves to try new recipes and new authors’ books. Her favorite foods are green (lettuce, broccoli, pickles). A former crime reporter for the Daily Press, Kelli has been writing for the Oyster Pointer as long as she has been able to hold a pencil.
Brian J. DePrinzio is the husband of Jennifer DePrinzio and the father of Ava Rose and Ellina Grace. Raised in Hampton Roads, he is a graduate of Hampton High School's inaugural International Baccalaureate class, a graduate of Thomas Nelson Community College with an Associate's degree in liberal arts and a graduate of Christopher Newport University with a Bachelor's degree in English with a writing concentration. Brian is also a 12th Grade Honors English Teacher with Newport News Public Schools. He most enjoys spending his free time with his family, reading, writing and pondering philosophy. Brian has been working with Oyster Pointer since 2008.
Vice President, Finance
Bill Craft, retired CEO of Associated Naval Architects, past executive director of the Virginia Port Authority and resident construction engineer of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, put away his briefcase and engineering tools to pick up financial responsibilities and newspaper restocking for the Oyster Pointer. He has been voted “best all around” for all handy jobs with the paper, proudly noting his claim to fame is being married to the publisher and editor.
Design and Layout
Sara Sanders is a graphic designer and is one half of SHS Design. She has worked with Sylvia on the Oyster Pointer since 1993.
Stewart Sanders is a graphic designer and web master and is the other half of SHS Design. He has worked on the print version of the Oyster Pointer for many years and also developed and manages the web site.
Social Media Manager
Melanie Occhiuzzo is a senior at Christopher Newport University (CNU), pursuing a bachelor’s degree in English with a concentration in writing. She currently serves as editor-in-chief of The Captain’s Log, CNU’s student publication.

Cathy Welch is a Hampton Roads-based writer, photographer and book editor. She says her life is an eclectic mix of career and FAMILY. She earned our Bachelors degree in business administration at Christopher Newport University, minoring in Spanish. Her career has been full- and part-time as an administrator, an engineering assistant, a bookseller, a merchandiser, a naval photography layout assistant, an office manager, a grant writer and a human resource manager, all giving her experiences that feed her writing. Aubrey Kosa graduated from Christopher Newport University (CNU) in May 2016, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She will be getting married in June 2018 to Hunter, who also graduated from CNU. While at CNU, Aubrey’s favorite project was Documentary Storytelling, which involved telling the stories of the elderly members in the Newport News community through prose and audio segments.

Sally Grace Holtgrieve is a full-time freelance writer for newspapers and magazines. Growing up, Sally Grace always checked out the maximum number of library books permitted. One week she would read everything on phytoplankton, and the next it would be Pakistan, Panama or veterinary science. When she got to college, she found it absurd that she was required to choose which subject was the most interesting, so she pursued a career in journalism. Now she learns new things every day and actually gets paid to ask too many questions. When she’s not writing, Sally Grace prefers to be traveling. Recently she went on a trip to Provence, France and on another to Big Bend National Park, Texas. She loved both because they were new and different. In fact, she likes everywhere as long as she’s never been there before.

Allan Hanrahan was born in North Carolina and reared on the Virginia Peninsula, living there until moving to Smithfield. He is married to Renee (nee Koskinas). Their sons are Gary and Gregory, and their granddaughters are Rebecca and Sarah. A graduate of Newport News High School, NASA Apprentice School, Christopher Newport College (now University), he did graduate study at George Washington University. He worked at NASA's Langley Research Center for 36 1/2 years, serving as an electronic instrument maker/technician, production controller (planner) and writer/editor, and for 22 years wrote the column Personnel Profiles for the in-house Langley Researcher. He has freelanced for the Daily Press, incorporating many of those articles into a book: “Times and Places: A Glimpse of Life on the Virginia Peninsula.” After retiring from NASA, Allan was a substitute school teacher and middle-school tutor. He has been writing for Oyster' Pointer since 2000, an activity that he enjoys immensely, primarily for the intellectual stimulation he receives from meeting and talking with many accomplished entrepreneurs, always gaining knowledge from their encounters.

Ahjahnae LaQuer lives by her motto, “Always stay lively.” No matter what obstacles she may face in life, she will always see the good in things. She loves spending time on her computer, playing the Sims or watching the latest Netflix ‘original’ series. She is the youngest of six children and making time to talk and spend time with my family is very important to her. She considers many of her friends as family, always willing to help them when she is needed. She enjoys motivating people. Ahjahnae graduated in 2016 from Morgan State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism. Her aspiration in life is to be a positive influence on film and television and to travel the country as a motivational speaker.
Denise Hilton grew up in Gloucester and attended college in North Carolina where she met husband David. She and David live in Williamsburg with their two cats and a dog. Denise’s lifelong passion is photography. She has always been fascinated by the camera’s workings. Her passion began when she receive her first camera at age 10. She was exposed to the dark room in her high school art class, which started her love of process film and pictures, leading to her career of working in photo labs for 25 years. Her favorite photo subject is nature, fascinating her with the light changes throughout the day. When she is not behind the camera, Denise enjoys reading, gardening and cooking.
