I guess we’d all like to make a positive contribution during our short, short lives. Looking at my three daughters and my son and seeing what nice, considerate people they are gives me all I need to be assured I’ve made mine.
So, if no one reading this is inspired by the following, my life has still been OK. I’ve been self-employed since 1976 (which means I haven’t had a paycheck since then). After 20-plus years in my first business, I decided to start an additional part-time sideline doing something I loved. I was mid-life, going through a divorce, had a five-year-old daughter and wanted to have something positive come of all that.
I spent a couple of years further educating myself and started my sideline venture. Within the first year I was so busy, I was able to transition into it as my full-time career. Left the previous business behind.
While I didn’t see that coming, I’m proud I found the idealism to take the leap and then the realism to make it work. It’s posing a false dichotomy to ask which of those is the most important. It takes both.
I’d like my example of first following a dream and then making it work to inspire someone, someone reading this, to make a similar positive leap in their life. It’s a brief stay here. Make the most of it.
Wish you well…
