Dr. Terilyn J. Goins

Meet the Writer

If a song could encapsulate the meaning of someone’s life, the one that would best reflect Terilyn Goins’ life experience is “Turn, Turn, Turn,” by the Byrds.

To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time to every purpose under heaven

Every momentous twist and turn Terilyn has traversed through life has been orchestrated through the lens of her faith—

She began her higher education journey with initial funds provided by an unidentified donor—Turn

She completed her doctoral studies prepared to pursue a lifelong journey as an educator—Turn

She launched her career as a professor—Turn

She gave birth to three beautiful children along the way—Turn

She pursued her passion of speaking and performing, recorded five vocal CDs—Turn

She returned to college classroom full time, educating graduate and undergraduate students—Turn

Her children are now grown, finishing college, pursuing life on their own—Turn

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace, I swear it’s not too late.

In every personal and professional endeavor, at every turn, it has been evident to Terilyn that the path has been paved and the way made clear. And, still, there’s more to do—“I swear it’s not too late.”—Turn

In my real life, this is what I do:
I am a professor of communication studies at Emmanuel College and Regent University; vocalist and motivational speaker.

And this is what I do for fun: Spend time with family—snow skiing in Vermont, beaching in Florida and Myrtle Beach

My favorite writer is Jodi Picoult.

My favorite book is Dante’s Inferno.

When I have time for myself, I especially like to imagine all the possibilities life has to offer and Netflix or Hulu binge.

My favorite place I’ve traveled to is Kauai, Hawaii.

I would like to travel to Alaska.

Three people I most admire are:

  1. Jerry Falwell Sr.
  2. My children—Tré, Taylor and Loghan
  3. Ronald Reagan

On my bucket list, I would like to:

  1. Go on an Alaskan cruise.
  2. Write and publish a book.
  3. Live in Boulder, Colorado.
