The first step to a healthy lifestyle is  to take action! Pick an exercise (think strength training and cardiorespiratory training) and integrate it into your life. Defend that time in your calendar.

The best-kept secret to personal fitness is  that strength training IS the long-term solution to fat loss and aging well! More muscle increases metabolism, burning more calories at rest. Because we lose muscle mass as we age, we need to counter it by integrating strength/resistance training into our fitness training weekly.

Something that I strongly encourage everyone to do is  to research and see how a Whole Food Plant-Based diet can benefit one’s body and our planet.

The best place to eat a healthy, balanced lunch in Newport News is  Cava or the salad bar at Whole Foods.

When I want to relax, I  check in with my current state: my current thoughts and feelings, acknowledging them—not making myself wrong for feeling any of it.

The most important lesson I have learned is  how to be with people in their grief, recognizing I can’t make it go away. Often what they need is to have their screaming broken hearts heard and felt.

The book I most recently read and would recommend is  Untamed by Glennon Doyle! It’s incredible!

My favorite guilty pleasure is  vegan chocolate cake, for sure!

When I am not working, my favorite pastime is  going to live theater and Broadway shows!

My most prized material possession is  my mom’s vintage jean jacket from the early 90s.

Something I enjoy doing with my friends is  walk and talks, getting in exercise while we have limited time together.
