My Blind Spot: A passion for design

My Blind Spot has been offering custom blinds, shades, shutters, draperies, hardware, valances, Roman shades, bedding, cushions, pillows and fabrics by the yard to the Hampton Roads area since 1992.

“My Aunt Doris owned two stores named Window Dressings when she was presented with the opportunity to purchase My Blind Spot,” says Leigh Wall, business owner. “She went forward with the purchase and merged the three locations to use My Blind Spot’s name. I began working with her in 2001 in a managerial role, then transitioned to the designer role. In 2017, when she made the decision to retire, I began the process of purchasing the business. I have officially owned it since 2018. Since then, I have been growing my client base on the Virginia Peninsula. As a resident of Yorktown, I am excited to meet and work with new clients in my community.”

Wall says that as a child, she spent her free time with a pencil and graph paper drawing floorplans and always had a passion for how rooms and spaces could come together. She originally aspired to be an interior designer, and after pursuing other opportunities, found herself returning to the design world as she began working with her aunt.

“While I may not have initially followed the exact path I envisioned as a child, my journey led me to an understanding of design that was both practical and deeply satisfying,” Wall says. “The most rewarding part of my job is the relationships I build with my clients. Many of them return, and I love the trust we’ve formed over the years.”

My Blind Spot doesn’t have a brick-and-mortar location; instead Wall is a mobile service. “I realized the best place to look at colors and samples wasn’t in a store with artificial light; it was in my clients’ homes and businesses,” she says.

When asked what sets her apart from others in the field, Wall highlights her commitment to personalized service. “I take time to listen to my clients’ needs and offer solutions tailored to their lifestyle. I’m not just offering a product or service; I’m offering an experience that brings their vision to life,” she says. “Keeping my word and doing what’s right for my clients, always, is what keeps them returning and referring me to their family, friends and community members for my services. People can trust that I listen and create designs that truly work for them.”

My Blind Spot also takes pride in other committed aspects of its business, including Wall’s diverse expertise and experience in the field, her commitment to relationships with clients, a keen attention to detail and a deep-rooted passion for design.

When Wall isn’t working, she enjoys volunteering with her church, being outdoors with her husband and two dogs and watching her son play sports. “Whether we are cooking together, enjoying our fireplace or having a cocktail under the stars in the backyard, it’s those moments that remind me of the joy in life beyond My Blind Spot.”
