In The Lost Americans, Christopher Bolling pulled me into the world of frantic Egyptian days, deserts stocked with weapons, American patriots and families of liars. When her brother dies suspiciously in an Egyptian hotel, Cate refuses to accept his death as suicide. A postcard he sent to her convinces her that Polestar, the munitions company he worked for, had him killed. Cate takes off for Egypt, ignoring the million-dollar settlement and NDA policy her family has accepted to leave his death unquestioned. In Egypt, Cate stumbles into more complex and dangerous scenarios, finally convincing her the company was not to blame. Unfortunately, the truth comes far too late to save her from the horrific reality. A well plotted novel that kept me guessing until the last page. Bet it will be the same for you!
And then I met All The Sinners Bleed, S.A. Cosby’s new book, and with great anticipation, I stuck my nose into this one. It was even more interesting when I realized the setting of Charon County was actually close to home under a new name. Titus Crown is the first black sheriff elected to office in his hometown. Coming home to care for his aging father, he is confronted with a school shooter, a serial killer and dangerous cult-like churches. Unfortunately, the racism that still runs through the county creates a difficult dilemma for Titus. As he works through the tragedies and gains the respect of his constituents, he realizes his future may not lie in law enforcement. This was a true suspenseful novel with Newport News even mentioned as a date-night place. I highly recommend it.
