Twenty years with the Chamber has taught me strong relationships are the foundation of every successful business community. Listening, bringing people together and finding ways to help others succeed creates opportunities that benefit everyone.
The most rewarding part of serving the Virginia Peninsula business community is watching businesses and leaders grow and knowing the Chamber played a role in their success.
One Chamber event I always look forward to is our Annual Meeting because it recognizes the accomplishments of our members and outstanding leadership, and it reminds me of the strength and resilience of our business community.
one piece of advice For a new Chamber member is to get engaged and stay engaged with the Chamber. Attend events, introduce yourself, join boards and build relationships.
The biggest change I have seen in our business community over the past 20 years is the rise of collaboration. The Chamber, businesses, nonprofits, educational institutions and local governments are working together to strengthen our regional economy.
One local business leader who has inspired me is Bob McKenna because his vision on how to bring people and businesses together for the betterment of our community is an inspiration.
Most people would be surprised to learn that I love to decorate. This could be anything from redesigning my house layout to decorating for the holidays. I also love to sew, paint pictures, make scrapbooks and wreaths, especially around the holidays.
My favorite place on the Virginia Peninsula is my home. It’s where I feel most at peace, surrounded by beautiful scenery and the people I love.
Looking ahead, I am most excited about the future of our Chamber, the development of future leaders as well as growing our membership and the continued opportunities to support innovation, strengthen our business community and help shape the next chapter of the Virginia Peninsula’s success. On the personal side, I am looking forward to spending more time with my husband, seeing more of my kids and having great-grandchildren.
