Tiffany Boyle, Newport News commissioner of the revenue, has been recognized by the Town of Dumfries, Va., for her leadership in advancing anti-human trafficking awareness and survivor support across Virginia. Boyle received a proclamation from Dumfries Mayor Derrick Wood and the town council for her work through Operation Breakthrough: A Red Sand Project, a public art and awareness initiative she organizes annually during Human Trafficking Awareness Month.
Virginia Peninsula Community College is the recipient of a $500,000 federal grant through a bill sponsored by U. S. Congressman Bobby Scott. The funds will be used to establish VPCC’s Community Wellness & Workforce Center and support the college’s efforts to help students in the maritime, healthcare and advanced manufacturing sectors overcome barriers to graduation, investments that will strengthen workforce development across Hampton Roads. Jay Mathieu has been appointed board chair of the Center for Child & Family Services (CCFS), succeeding Dan Elston.
