Among the local nonprofit foundations receiving Cox Charities grants were the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank and the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsula. Virginia Peninsula Foodbank will strengthen its culinary training program by funding essential supplies, equipment and student needs, including uniforms, stipends and certification costs, helping participants successfully complete the program and enter the workforce. The YMCA will expand hands-on STEM learning within its Providence Youth Services programs by investing in robotics kits, coding platforms and digital tools, while also supporting staff training to ensure high-quality, equitable learning opportunities for youth. Cox Charities is a charitable initiative of Cox Communications funded by Cox employees. The funds raised are invested annually as Cox Charities Community Grants to organizations that align with its focus areas of youth innovation programs centered on science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM); conservation and sustainability initiatives; and equal opportunity.
