The Peninsula SPCA’s 17th annual Fur Ball gala raised more than $390,000 for its pets and programs at this year’s event, Nashville Nights, in March. More than 400 guests with nearly 30 pets joined the celebration. Guests enjoyed a silent auction having their portraits taken by Bob Harper Photography. Four-legged guests were treated to tasty treats at the Muttini Bar, sponsored by Carol & Frank, Pearson Toyota, TowneBank, Old Point National Bank, VCA Animal Hospitals and Care-a-Lot Pet Supply. before the pet parade. Fiona St. Clair (second from left), a rising junior, and Cleopatra Barr, (third from left) a graduating senior at Christopher Newport University, are 2025 recipients of the Sylvia Weinstein Craft Endowed Scholarship award of $1,850. Barr, also recipient of the Belvin F. Ward Endowed Merit Scholarship in Business, received a business degree with a concentration in marketing and leadership studies and plans to pursue her own company to help market small equestrian corporations. St. Clair, also recipient of the 2025 Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Scholarship in the Liberal Arts and a two-time recipient of President William Kelly’s Challenge Coin, will graduate in May 2026 with a dual business degree in marketing and management. She plans to continue her research into the global housing crisis during her final year at CNU. Upon graduation, she is considering continuing her education through a data analytics master’s program, recognizing the growing importance of data-driven insights in shaping effective, sustainable solutions for global issues. Reason (left), was honored as one of only two courts in Virginia selected to host the Honorable Maki Kuroda, Judge from the Maebashi District Family Court in Gunma, Japan. This selection highlights the clerk’s commitment to improving the Court’s technology and innovation. Judge Kuroda, a distinguished judge from the Criminal Department of the Maebashi District Family Court, specifically requested to visit Newport News Circuit Court based on its recognition as a leader in court technology implementation.
