Tammy D’Eramo, owner of Advanced Dermagraphics, Inc., first heard about the notion of permanent makeup back in 2000 while working as a makeup artist in a local play at New Covenant Church on Big Bethel Road in Hampton.

“One of the performers asked me if I had permanent makeup on my face,” D’Eramo recalls. “I did not know what she meant. She watched a documentary about it and how many celebrities had permanent makeup. I thought to myself, ‘Why haven’t I heard of this before?’ and started doing some research.”

The more she learned about permanent makeup, the more D’Eramo knew it was something she wanted to do. Looking for a career change, D’Eramo went on to become a licensed master permanent cosmetic technician and a master aesthetician and started her company.

Advanced Dermagraphics offers natural looking permanent makeup services including eyebrows, eyelash enhancement and eyeliner, and lip color, as well as areola repigmentation for breast reconstruction and cancer patients and various skin care services. D’Eramo is certified in advanced specialty training and para-medical training. For the past six years, she has been operating as an independent consultant at the Body Shoppe Spa & Salon on George Washington Memorial Highway in Yorktown.

Advanced Dermagraphics is about “enhancing the beauty God has given us,” D’Eramo says. “It’s not about vanity; it is about self-esteem and confidence and making women feel better about themselves. My motto is ‘I want to age gracefully but not passively.’”

D’Eramo provides services that are complimentary to her clients’ facial features and bone structure. In addition to permanent makeup services, D’Eramo has expertise in facials and dermaplaning. Dermaplaning is a cosmetic procedure in which an aesthetician uses a special instrument to shave away the uppermost layers of the skin and facial hair. The process stimulates collagen, helps products penetrate deeper, rendering better results and reducing the appearance of imperfections.

“I would say dermaplaning is my most popular anti-aging service,” says D’Eramo. “For the permanent makeup, the eyebrows and eyeliner are the most popular service because they frame the eyes and lend definition.”

Most of her clients are women between the ages of 30 and 80. Some have been with her since she first started Advanced Dermagraphics in 2002.

“I’ve also had women coming to me in their 90s,” she says. “They want to look good. When you look good, you feel good.”

She’s also had several male clients, particularly those in the military. “Men have some of the same concerns about their appearance as women. They want to look good too,” D’Eramo says.

D’Eramo was born and raised on the Peninsula and has been a resident of Poquoson for nearly four decades. When she isn’t working, she likes to dance, spend time on the water and be with her family, which includes her two grown children and her three grandchildren.

“Being on the water is very tranquil; it is my therapy — and I love to fish,” says D’Eramo.

D’Eramo also enjoys volunteering in the nursery at her church, Next Level Church, in Yorktown, and karaoking at Salsa’s Mexican Grill. “I love to sing,” she says. “I have a karaoke machine at my house. It’s a lot of fun.”

D’Eramo is currently working on becoming certified as a functional medicine nutritionist, as she sees a correlation with what one eats and how it impacts the health of the skin.

“What you eat affects your skin, one’s thoughts affect health and will reflect in the skin,” she says. “We all want our skin to be healthy-looking and radiant. I help to educate and inspire my clients and share my knowledge with them so they can be the best they can be.”
