Amber Malo: Server, Busy Nothings

Point Blank

Amber and hubby (of blessed memory) celebrating a birthday.

The best thing about September is the  beginning of the “ber” months. It means cooler weather is on the way. I also love September because it’s back-to-school time, and I still love shopping for new colored pens, a nice notebook, a blank planner.

The aspect of my job I enjoy the most is  connecting with customers, remembering their order and sharing their day-to-day with them.

I hope people will remember me as being  kind. Kindness goes such a long way. It can change someone’s day, and over time I believe it can change a life. I strive to be kind every day.

When I need to relax, I  create. From painting and drawing to making a home-cooked meal to playing a musical instrument or singing in my car, creativity is my outlet to quiet my mind and body.

If I had an unexpected day off, I would spend it  with a friend catching up on our busy lives and dreaming of our future.

My favorite part of my daily routine is  arriving to my morning shift at Busy Nothings early. I love taking a moment sitting in the quiet shop before the grinding of coffee, the steaming of milk or the steeping of tea. I sit and meditate and breathe. Then welcome every customer.

If I could go back 20 years and give my former self life advice, I would tell myself  everything is going to be OK. Life will be hard. Unexpected things are going to happen, but in the end you will survive and be transformed.

The one material possession I have that brings me the most joy is  my home. In 2016, my late husband and I had purchased a small home and some land in Gloucester. Our plan was to remodel it, build an addition and add a second floor for my aging parents. When he suddenly passed away, I worried that dream would not happen. However, surrounded by wonderful friends and family, in three years we completed this dream. Now I have a wonderful home and community, built out of love and a healing for me.
