David, Kamp & Frank, LLC, has been serving the Commonwealth of Virginia for decades. The longevity of the law firm is acknowledged each day through the relationships that its lawyers form with its clients. Attorney E. D. “Buddy” David is celebrating having practiced law for 55 years.

“This whole story begins with the number 50,” says David. It’s a running theme that seems to persist throughout the winding and continuing story of David, Kamp & Frank. “I’ve been practicing law 55 years. Lisa has been in my life 50 years. This year, I was married 59 years, and Lisa was married 50 years.”

The Lisa to whom David is referring is Lisa Bubczyk, his paralegal, who has worked with the attorney for 50 years. She shares that her career “has basically been intertwined with his.”

David and Bubczyk both worked at Jones, Blechman, Woltz, & Kelly PC, a law firm that served Virginia for 75 years. David describes the late Frank Blechman as an “icon of a father-in-law,” who hired Bubczyk to be David’s legal assistant when she was 19 years old. Her dynamic working relationship with David has persisted since.

“In 1996, we left and started this office,” David remembers of David, Kamp & Frank’s beginnings. “Arthur and (the late) Barbara Kamp and I started this office. Joe Frank, of blessed memory, joined us [two years later].” The firm has expanded to accommodate multiple additional lawyers and staff members. This includes David’s two partners, his son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Jenny David, who met at the University of Virginia Law School, David’s alma mater.

“We have a robust residential and commercial real estate practice,” David says. The firm’s areas of practice also include business law, civil litigation, landlord-tenant, labor and employment, family law and estate planning and administration.

“We have no ‘silos’ in this office, no matter to whom you’re assigned or who your paralegal is,” David says. “You can go to anybody in the office and get help, and there’s a real sense of that here. And a family atmosphere, too.”

“The legal profession is badly misunderstood,” David says. “Stability in our life, and in our government and in our world, is protected by the legal profession. And I take that role very seriously, and in that context, to be able to help people navigate the system gives me a lot of joy and pleasure.” David emphasizes that the firm doesn’t advertise or solicit.

Bubczyk enjoys the mental stimulation the practice offers. “I like being in an atmosphere where you’re dealing with individuals who need assistance, whether or not they realize it,” she says. “We are good at what we do, and I think when clients leave, that’s what they tell people.” She and two other women, Donna Hull and Patty West, worked for David for more than 30 years.

David, Kamp and Frank’s legacy of 50 years continues to strengthen, thanks to the people behind it and its continuing familial connections. If you tie David and Bubcyzk’s working relationship “to Frank Blechman and his legal assistant, the late Marguerite Bridge’s relationship,” says David, “and then if you tie it to the next generation of Frank Blechman’s grandchildren in the practice — it’s special.”

David and Bubczyk agree on most matters of importance and the one matter that stands out is “we are both too young to retire.”
