Yasmin Kettani

Meet the Writer

Yasmin Kettani is a full-time student at Christopher Newport University, studying political science and journalism. From an early age, Yasmin has always had a passion for advocacy and writing, and in the future she hopes to pursue a career in political journalism. Although a native of Northern Virginia, through her time at Christopher Newport she has found a love for Coastal Virginia and enjoys writing about its people with the grace of the Oyster Pointer. Storytelling is something that has always been important to Yasmin; learning about new people, their experience and giving their voice a platform is what inspires Yasmin to pursue journalism. In Yasmin’s free time, she enjoys watching bad reality TV, brunch dates with her best friend and going kayaking or hiking!

In my real life, this is what I do: I am a full-time political science student specializing in international relations and journalism.

And this is what I do for fun: I love reading and writing, anything outdoors, such as kayaking and hiking and being around my favorite people.

My favorite writer is: Paulo Coelho. The Alchemist is one of my favorite reads.

My favorite book is: The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

When I have time for myself, I especially like to do yoga, journal, and sometimes I try a little bit of meditation. Self-care for the mind is very important to me!

My favorite place I’ve traveled is Rabat, Morocco. I am half Moroccan on my dad’s side and learning about the culture has been amazing!

I recently enjoyed traveling to: London, UK, where I had a study abroad opportunity. It was a dream to visit there.

Three people I most admire:

  1. My parents
  2. Ruth Bader Ginsburg
  3. Malala Yousafzai

On my bucket list, I would like to

  1. Visit all seven wonders of the world.
  2. Publish my own book.
  3. Buy my parents a vacation home one day.
